New release of QA Distiller™

Ycomm Europe proudly announces the release of QA Distiller™ 5.0. In this new version, the number of formal errors that the tool can automatically recognise in technical translations is greatly expanded. In addition, new functionalities have been added for configuring the user interface and changing the language settings. Through the implementation of “regular expressions”, the number of incorrectly generated error messages has been significantly reduced. Furthermore, a handy search engine and a spelling checker have been built in.

New checks

QA Distiller™ is a software application that makes it possible to automatically detect formal errors in translations and enables their quick and easy correction. The categories of formal translation errors are omissions (forgotten or missing translations), inconsistencies, formatting problems in words and sentences, and terminology errors. In the new version, a number of the existing “checks” have been expanded, but several completely new control mechanisms have also been introduced, such as the detection of incomplete translations and inconsistencies in the use of capital letters and punctuation. Additionally, a check is now available to determine whether measurement system units and values have been correctly converted.

Setup and user settings

Besides the use of the predefined, default configuration of the software, the new version offers numerous “customisation” options. The user can, for example, adapt the user interface to suit their own preferences, easily change the settings for each language, and create exception lists per project so checking can be performed in a flexible and focused manner. Furthermore, the new software allows these user or project-specific settings to be shared or exchanged with other QA Distiller™ users.

Preventing false error messages

The new version of QA Distiller™ contains extensive options for reducing the number of “false” error messages. In the window in which the error messages appear, the user can click on a wrench icon to add the segment that generated the false error message to a list of “exceptions” that can be applied to each check. This allows the user, in the case of “forgotten translations” (in which the source and target segments are identical), to add the string to a list of “untranslatables” for all languages –this may include the names of companies, software packages, brand names, et cetera– or a separate list for a specific target language in the case of words that do not have to be translated for that language –words like video, software and computer, for example.

QA Distiller™ can be seamlessly integrated in the traditional localisation process, providing a reliable, objective and consistent way of analysing and evaluating translation quality. The results of QA Distiller™ implementation exceed expectations: because 100% of the translation is checked, accuracy in technical translations is guaranteed, avoiding the risk of incurring unforeseen expenses and the resulting unacceptable delays in delivery.
