Yamagata Europe is ISO 17100 certified for translation

Yamagata Europe is proud to announce that we have received ISO 17100:2015 certification after extensive analysis by Austrian Standards plus GmbH. The ISO 17100 is a standard designed for the translation industry and demonstrates that our translators and translation processes meet the highest international quality standards.

A company audit of our Gent and Bratislava teams on 8 March 2021 confirmed that Yamagata Europe meets ISO 17100 requirements by delivering high quality translation services. Obtaining the certification formalizes Yamagata Europe’s year-long company focus on quality management.

ISO 17100 means that a strict translation process is followed, which consists of the following steps:

• An initial translation, including a self-revision
• A revision by a second translator
• Upon customer request: an optional review and proofreading step
• A final verification

According to ISO17100 the profile of the translator should comply with one of the following:

• The translator has obtained a degree in translation, linguistics or language studies or an equivalent degree that includes significant translation training, from a recognized institution of higher education. ​
• The translator has obtained a degree in any other field from a recognized institution of higher education and has the equivalent of two years of full-time professional experience in translating.
• The translator has the equivalent of five years of full-time professional experience in translating.

At Yamagata Europe, we’ve raised the bar even higher as we additionally require all translators to provide evidence that they are native speakers of the target language.
